Michael Williams Jr Says Adrien Broner Is No Longer a Top Fighter at 147

Michael Williams Jr (20-1, 13 KOs) views his February 25 battle against multi-divisional world champion Adrien “AB” Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) as his opportunity to make a statement in front of the boxing world. In Williams’s eyes, Broner is a fighter ready to be taken.

YOUNG BUCK VERSUS OLD DOG

AB comes in as the more experienced fighter. He’s fought some of the very best at 140 and 147 pounds. But during an interview with FightHype, Williams said the 33-year-old Broner has seen his best days and is not the fighter he used to be.

“Those top guys he fought, that was 20 years ago. He’s getting old, and he’s not the same AB no more, and times change. Everybody goes through their moments in life. When he was popping in the age and he was strong, that’s me right now.

It flipped, so I’m definitely coming in there and bringing that force. I’m the young guy. He’s definitely smaller. I’m taller, bigger. He definitely shouldn’t be fighting at 147, and we’re going to show him why.”

Williams is in his right to point out the difference in size. Broner’s performances over the years have been inconsistent. His best days as a pro were at 130 and 135 pounds. As AB has gone up in weight, he has not had the same success.

NOT MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES

The only loss of Williams’s career took place in December 2021, when he was stopped in four rounds by John Bauza. The 23-year-old explained that loss on being weight-drained. With time to reflect on what went wrong, he looks at it as a learning experience and looks forward to showing that he is a much better fighter than what fans saw against Bauza. The upcoming contest against Broner is happening at 147. He said that his strength and conditioning are on point this time around.

That will show itself out on fight night. But one thing is clear – Williams is on a mission to win and show that Broner’s time has gone and passed.

“It’s going to be an entertaining fight. Whatever he brings, we’re definitely gonna bring that energy back. So, if he want to get crazy, we definitely bring that same force back.”

“We’re going to see who gonna rise to the top. He got something to prove, and I definitely got something to prove. We’re gonna see who the best man on that day is.”
