Julian Williams is Serious About Drug Testing!
There is little doubt that the newly crowned IBF, IBO and WBA world super welterweight champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams (27-1-1, 16 KO’s) is still riding high.
Just over a week ago, the hardened Philly fighter striped Jarrett “Swift” Hurd (23-1, 16 KO’s) of those previously mentioned belts in mesmerizing fashion. Not only was he victorious, the memorable prizefight is a leading candidate for “Fight of the Year”.
Armed with his new commanding position in the sport and division, Williams is intent on using it to effect meaningful change. Shortly after becoming champion, Williams’ trainer, Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, took to his Twitter account to praise Hurd.
In the tweet, Edwards gave a great deal of respect to “Swift” for signing up for VADA. Not only did Hurd sign up, he participated for several straight months without a blemish. Team Williams as a whole was impressed by this and thought it warranted a special highlight.
The Trend Continues
It would appear that Team Williams is intent on making vigorous testing a regularity. Both Julian Williams and his trainer, Edwards, have returned to Twitter to double-down on their feelings regarding VADA testing.
“Just a friendly reminder for my future opponents I will be requesting at least 90 DAYS RANDOM BLOOD TESTING BY @VADA_TESTING. Wont be cycling off on me.
Now we’re going to find out who’s really the best in the 154lbs divivision.”
Julian “J-Rock” Williams – Unified Super Welterweight Champion
“Any junior middleweights want to fight Julian Williams @jrockboxing don’t call Al 1st, call @Vada_Testing 1stthen hit up the big guy. 3+months of testing or no bump. We don’t care who you are”
~Stephen “Breadman” Edwards – Trainer for Williams
Much respect is due to Team Williams for continuing to not only make testing a priority, but for keeping the issue out front in the media.
