Zak Miller Wins Close Fight Against Masood Abdulah By MD
In his latest duel, featherweight fighter Zak Miller (16-1, 3 KOs) defeated Masood Abdulah (11-1, 7 KOs) by majority decision. To open the contest, Miller moved extremely well and routinely kept Abdulah at the business end of his jab. When caught on the inside, Miller was quick to hold.
Roughly about the third period, Abdulah increased his work rate and intensity. The change in tactics paid off as he began scoring with hooks to the head and troubling body shots. When in clinches he would frantically strike with his free hand as the pressure slowed Miller down a bit.
Each man ended the third with a cut on the eye. From the third round on, the duel was a very choppy affair that resulted in clinches nearly every time the two got close. Miller never received a warning from the referee, Mark Lyson, for excessive holding.
It was significant because Abdullah did quality work when free to move. Nevertheless, when the duel went to the scorecards, the hometown fighter narrowly escaped with a majority decision win to the tune of 114-114, 115-114, and 115-113 for Miller.
