Xander Zayas Crushes in Pro Debut!
Seventeen year old Xander Zayas, who’s the youngest fighter to ever sign with Top Rank, looked to impress in his pro debut. He is an eleven-time US and Puerto Rican National champion and began boxing at age five. As he made his pro debut, he is still a senior in high school!
His opponent, Genesis Wynn, came in with a record of 1-0, and it was his second professional fight hailing out of Los Angeles California.
The fight started out really fast, as Zayas knew exactly how he wanted to attack Wynn. The young phenom seemingly couldn’t miss as his jab opened up Wynn to followup straight-rights and hooks. Zayas dropped Wynn with a 1-2 between his guard approximately forty seconds into the fight.
Wynn would beat the count and immediately get on his bicycle. This still didn’t buy him much time, as the Puerto Rican tracked him down with another right-hand and ended matters.
In a testament to the star expectations of the high school fighter, he was actually interviewed following his victory. Zayas would state that he plans to return to high school to complete his senior year, and attend his prom and graduation.
