Zepeda stops Rondon in seven and looks to get a title shot next!
Jose Zepeda makes another statement while on his journey to obtain another world title shot. The top ten rated boxer stopped opponent Domicio Rondon.
The 29 year-old southpaw, improved his record to (30-1, 25KO) with the seventh round stoppage. Rondon couldn’t answer back after being hit with a barrage of unanswered hard punches which prompted the referee to stop the fight.
The major difference in skill became apparent early-on. Zepeda looked impressive working behind the jab, slipping punches and following with sharp counters.
Looking for a title shot may prove to be more difficult than it seems, although, it’s his desire at super lightweight all the champions are busy. His rankings with the four major sanctioning bodies are as follows:
Lightweight
- WBC: #17
- IBF: Un-ranked
- WBO: Un-ranked
- WBA: #9
Junior Welterweight
- WBC: Un-ranked
- IBF: Un-ranked
- WBO: #4
- WBA: Un-ranked
Based on the rankings, he may have a better shot at taking the WBO route at junior welterweight. This means a fight with the winner of Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo could be in his future.
