Caroline Dubois Outclasses Panetta and Speaks on Baumgardner
In this her latest tour of duty, WBC lightweight champion “Sweet” Caroline Dubois (12-0-1, 5 KO’s) snagged a wide unanimous decision victory over Camilla Panetta (8-3-1, 1 KO’s). The match stood as her third defense of the title and her first professional competition staged in the US. This was no doubt a calculated move as Dubois appears to be building a showdown with unified super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner.
Baumgardner was scheduled to fight later on the same card that Dubois toppled Panetta. Sweet Caroline has let it be known that she feels a dustup with Baumgardner is one of the best female fights in the world. Despite the acclaim that she has expressed for the duel, when asked in her post-fight interview, Sweet Caroline had her mind on the science of economics.
“Not next, but definitely down the line. I feel like we are still a little bit away from each other, not in terms of skill, but just in terms of building it up to what that fight can be.”
If Dubois has no intent on targeting the unified champion next, then the question is: who? The natural desire would be to unify with her fellow champions Terri Harper (WBO), Elif Nur Turhan (IBF) or Stephanie Han (WBA).
