Abdullah Mason Seeks to Notch his Fifth Victory of 2023

If given his way, rising lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason (10-0, 8 KO’s) will end a busy 2023 on a high note. On Thursday, November 16, Mason will take on Jose Cardenas in his fifth bout of the year. Over the course of the four previous matches, Abdullah has collected three knockouts and one unanimous decision. Now the blue chip bruiser, and Top Rank fighter, has his mind set on the destruction of Cardenas.

Despite his youthful age of 19, in the ring, Mason has repeatedly demonstrated patience, impressive intelligence, a penchant for body shots and a handsome selection of punches. Provided that he remains on his current trajectory, the clever southpaw has an exceedingly bright future in the sport.

This should not come as the biggest surprise as the Cleveland, Ohio native is one of the five notorious Mason brothers. The fighting clan has garnered attention from all over the country due to their impressive skills. In fact, even Floyd Mayweather Sr. took notice and threw his support behind the troupe of boxers.

HOLD THE COURSE

Yet, the higher up the ladder he traverses, the tougher his opposition will become. Given that Mason now resides within the lightweight division this is no small realization. With names like Frank Martin, Keyshawn Davis, Jamaine Ortiz, Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis floating around, 135 pounds is certainly one treacherous division.

Thankfully though, Mason still has time to grow and develop before he has to hop in the ring with more heavily established boxers in the top fifteen. But how much more time in the oven does he need? When he does make it to that elevation however, there is an excellent chance that Mason will continue to hold his own. First, let’s see what Mason does with Jose Cardenas because, in boxing, the gladiators have to prove it every time.
