Angel Acosta dominates; stops Ganigan Lopez in 8 rounds!
WBO light flyweight champion Angel Acosta makes the third defense of his title against former WBC light flyweight champion Ganigan Lopez.
In a battle of Orthodox vs Southpaw, the first half saw the reigning champion come out applying controlled pressure and utilizing his hand speed to score from the outside.
Lopez, however, would sporadically let his hands go; occasionally landing some nice straight left hands. Acosta’s body work started to take its toll; evident by the heavy breathing and lack of activity from his opponent as the fight wore on.
In round eight, Acosta would finally catch Lopez in an exchange; hurting him with a left hook followed up with a barrage of punches until his opponent would fall to his knees.
Lopez would not beat the count, suffering his ninth career defeat, the third by knockout.
The Puerto Rican champion improves to 20-1 while recording knockouts in all 20 of his wins. He has already cemented himself as one of the hardest punchers in the sport!
Now the questions are will he look to unify at light flyweight or move to flyweight to avenge his only loss to Kosei Tanaka?
