Carlos Adames may step in for Jarrett Hurd and face Julian “J-Rock” Williams!
Normally when one door closes and another door opens, someone benefits from this cycle. We are all familiar with the rematch cancellation between unified junior middleweight champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams and Jarrett “Swift” Hurd. Closing the door on that fight may have opened an opportunity for undefeated Top Rank contender Carlos Adames (18-0, 14KO).
The 24-year old, Dominican boxer is coming off a dominating performance over New York native Patrick Day. As he’s currently ranked inside the top 5 by all four major sanctioning bodies, a title shot is within his grasp.
THE PATH TO GLORY
Looking at the landscape of the division, there are many avenues the young prospect can take. His #1 rating with the WBO is perfect, especially considering rumors of champion Jaime Munguia moving to middleweight.
The WBC is also a possibility. However, with the rematch between Tony Harrison and Jermall Charlo, it could be a while before any movement happens there.
Adames is also rated #3 and #4 respectively by the IBF and WBA. This is a direct beeline to the unified champion.
In the IBF, both the top spots are vacant. This means a mandatory ordering could come down the pipe very soon. It’s been well documented the seriousness of the IBF when it comes to mandatory fights. It would also mean that boxing’s head honchos Top Rank CEO Bob Arum and Premier Boxing Champions Al Haymon will be working together once again.
THE CONCLUSION
Adames has been fighting hard climbing up the ranks and is currently the WBO/NABO junior middleweight titlist. This has been a long journey, though the light at the end of tunnel is getting closer.
It’s safe to say whatever route leads to a championship, the undefeated fighter is in the best position where he can’t be overlooked!
