While the media was focused on the official announcement of Mikey Garcia’s next fight, his last opponent and the guy Garcia was rumored to face next have agreed to a deal to fight in April or May. Adrien Broner, 33-3 24KO, and Omar Figueroa, 27-0-1 19KO, are tentatively scheduled to face next spring in a main event on Showtime.
Broner hasn’t been in the ring since losing a lopsided decision to Garcia back in July. He is currently wanted in the state of Nevada for an assault charge that stems from an incident that happened earlier in the year in which he is seen on camera hitting a stranger.
The video quickly went viral and the state was all but forced to issue a warrant for his arrest. However Broner doesn’t seem to interested in trying to bothered by the situation as he can be heard in his new mixtape saying:
“F*ck Nevada, I ain’t goin’ to that state, with that warrant still riding with the K, even though they say they caught it on the tape,”
Figueroa came back from close to a two-year layoff to knock out Robert Guerrero this past summer. Figueroa fought Guerrero at the 147lb limit but has spentthe majority of his career at 140.
The details for this fight have yetto be determined. 140 or 147 either one could be the weight but as far as the location, it’s safeto say it won’t be at T-Mobile or Mandalay Bay in Vegas. New York anyone?
