Agit Kabayel Stops Agron Smakici in Thriller to Claim EBU Title!

In a thrilling heavyweight shootout, top-rated Agit Kabayel (23-0, 15KO) survived an early scare to score a third-round stoppage over unknown hard-puncher Agron Smakici (19-2, 17KO).

This fight started slowly as both fighters went through the motions of a feel-out round. Then in round two, Smakici took advantage of having a free hand in the clinch and landed a perfect left hook that had Kabayel on wobbly legs. The visiting Croatian continued to land bombs that forced his opponent to grab the ropes. The referee issued the typical standing eight count with the notion that if not for the ropes, Kabayel would have gone down.

Realizing Smakici’s gas tank was done, Kabayel came storming back in round three behind the roar of the crowd. He landed right-handed bombs while following Smakici from corner to corner before finally knocking him down.

As the fight resumed, the German poured it on by blasting away as his opponent was against the ropes. Despite Smakici firing back on occasion, the referee jumped in, preventing him from taking more punishment. With this victory, Kabayel could see a bump in the rankings as he walked away with the vacant EBU (European Boxing Union) title.

IT’S TIME TO FIGHT AGAINST A WORTHY OPPONENT

Ranked #8 IBF, #11 WBO, and #13 WBA, Kabayel showed heart by overcoming early adversity to remain undefeated. Looking at the rankings, it may be time to test the waters against a credible name. He can look to fight two-time title challenger Luis “King Kong” Ortiz, Martin Bakole, Demsey McKean, or Ali Eren Demirzen. Whatever the team decides next, one thing is for certain; it’s time to take off the kid gloves.
