Liam Smith Expects Chris Eubank Jr Rematch Announcement Soon

Former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (33-3-1, 19KO) has revealed the official announcement for the rematch with “Next Gen” Chris Eubank Jr (32-3, 23KO) could arrive soon.

On January 21, Beefy shocked the boxing world by becoming the first fighter to have stopped the flamboyant British middleweight contender. Immediately following the contest, Eubank revealed that he had a rematch clause and planned to invoke it in front of the pro-Smith crowd at Manchester Arena.

On February 14, Next Gen took to social media announcing to the boxing world he had activated the rematch clause. However, one month later, rumors surfaced that Eubank was looking to revisit the fight with Conor Benn.

SMITH SAYS THE ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT FAR OFF

Smith went from riding high after revitalizing his career into an uncertain situation. It seems the fight is back on as the former WBO champion told iD Boxing the official announcement could come this week.

“The rematch seems to be back on now, and if that’s the case, that’s the route we’ll go . . . this fight should have happened by May 20, by what I was told. But we’ll see – we’ll see what goes on this weekend. I’m being told it’s announced this week, so let’s see if it is.”

After acknowledging the fight will take place in June, Smith was all smiles while revealing the rematch takes place where he stopped Eubank Jr.

“I’m fighting [in] June . . . it’s not too drastic, but I probably did want to fight in May . . . I’m told Manchester . . . Chris hasn’t got the best of records in this Manchester Arena.”

As the boxing community awaits the official announcement, 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor this story.
