Discussions Taking Place For a Fight Between Alexis Rocha and Terence Crawford
Are we on the verge of a battle between WBO #4 ranked welterweight Alexis “Lex” Rocha (22-1, 14 KOs) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) later this year? Rocha is coming off a seventh-round stoppage over the late substitute opponent George “Red Tiger” Ashie and it seems a title shot is in view!
BRING ON BUD
After defeating Ashie, all the talk was about a potential fight with Crawford. During the post-fight interview, Lex said the following when asked about the WBO champion.
“That’s the fight I’m ready for next, let’s go. Everyone is asking, am I ready? I won’t know until I’m in the ring with him […] I’m ready for the big names. I know what I’m capable of and I know when I fight, whoever it is in front of me, I’m just going to take it up every level, every step.”
WHEELING AND DEALING
Speculation of the men fighting is fueled by Rocha’s promoter, Golden Boy. Company CEO Oscar De La Hoya and business partner Bernard Hopkins had a meeting with Crawford earlier this week. During the DAZN broadcast for Rocha vs Ashie, De La Hoya said the matchup is a distinct possibility. Hopkins went even further and announced that a the fight is the direction they are headed.
Crawford is coming off a sixth-round stoppage of David Avanesyan in December 2022. Bud is a free agent and able to work with any promoter. Were the fight to happen, it would be a big deal for Golden Boy. They would welcome promoting an event featuring one of the best and more popular fighters.
De La Hoya and Hopkins are not new to the game. They would not be teasing and making this kind of announcement unless something is tangible on the table regarding Crawford. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. It appears that Golden Boy has something brewing, for sure. Stay tuned to 3KingsBoxing.com for further updates.
