Canelo Alvarez to return on September 14 in Las Vegas.

Unified middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is set to return on September 14 in Las Vegas. In recent reports, his return has been in question as the unified champion suffered a knee injury while training.

The Mexican star just came off an impressive twelve-round victory over Danny Jacobs on Cinco De Mayo weekend. Texas is still an option for the 28-year old fighter, but Las Vegas is the likely location. Meanwhile, the opponent has yet to be determined.

He has quite a few options to choose from in a division full of top level fighters calling him out. One option is a third fight with Gennady Golovkin. Demetrius Andrade is also interested in a unification bout after defending his WBO title for the second time on June 29 against Maciej Sulecki.

Lastly and least likely of them all is Jermall Charlo. The newly crowned WBC champion is with PBC, therefore, the likelihood of that fight happening is slim. Alvarez may take another showcase fight like he did with Rocky Fielding. It will be very interesting to see who he selects as his next opponent.

DAZN fighter Demetrius Andrade is the obvious choice as he is the WBO middleweight champion. He has been calling out Alvarez since he was the WBO champion at junior middleweight. However, with Oscar Dela Hoya showing little interest in the past and practically no interest in the present, it will be on Alvarez to ask for a fight with Andrade much like he did for Erislandy Lara in 2014.

Then of course there is a possible bout with WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev. According to Bob Arum, Kovalev is set to face Anthony Yarde August 24 contingent upon Canelo sitting out in the fall. With this news, it looks like the unified champion will be available, therefore, it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.

More information on what Arum claims to be a deal with a contingency plan attached can be viewed at the link below.
