Demetrius Andrade issues unification challenge to Jermall Charlo
Two-divisional champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (30-0, 18ko) has been frustrated about not landing a fight with a big name opponent. He has confronted several different fighters at press conferences. Fans still talk about the time Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez told Andrade to “Get the fuck out of here.” However, his recent challenge to WBC Middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22ko) could finally make the fight happen.
Andrade has a long history with both the Charlo brothers. It dates back to when he turned down a fight with unified junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo back in 2014. Some fans constantly bring this up as a poor excuse as to why the WBC champion should not have to fight him.
Andrade, the WBO Middleweight champion, has been trying to get a unification fight with the rival WBC champion. In 2019, the boxing community thought the two were finally going to fight when the Hit-Man showed a willingness to negotiate a fight with his divisional counterpart. Sadly, the fight never materialized and Andrade continued his pursuit of wanting to fight the elder Charlo.
Once again, it looks like we could be getting the two champions in the ring. Charlo once again suggested being open to fighting Andrade during the post-fight press conference after successfully defending the title against #4 ranked Juan Montiel on June 19.
Andrade, tired of the grandstanding, took to social media with a list of the WBC champion’s past excuses.
At this point, even fans are getting bored with this saga. We all hope this time it is not just all posturing and these two finally settle it in the ring.
