Demetrius Andrade is calling anybody close to and within the middleweight division

After making the first defense of the WBO title, Demetrius Andrade wasted little time dropping some of the bigger names in the sport in hopes of a fight.

For years, the Rhode Island boxer’s career has been in obscurity. The stings of inactivity have been frustrating to witness considering the vast amount of skill he possess. Andrade was such an unknown, that many probably have no idea that he has captured a world title three times in two different divisions.

The former Olympian’s career, under promoter Eddie Hearn, is heading in the right direction. Of course, being a champion in one of the hottest divisions in boxing definitely helps.

During a DAZN promotion in Madison Square Garden, team Andrade wasn’t shy about future plans.

“We gonna get in there with whoever we can get in there with. You can name anybody. It takes two to tangle.

“For a long time, they’ve frozen him out. But now, cause of the focus on the middleweight division, if you’re a belt holder it doesn’t matter if your good, bad, popular or whatever.”
Eddie Hearn

The champion expressed that being at middleweight is beneficial without worries of making weight and re-hydrating properly.

It was even hinted that fights could be made at super-middleweight against undefeated fighters WBA champion Callum Smith or WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. The latter has expressed moving down in weight for a big fight numerous times now.

When asked about facing WBO Jr. Middleweight champion Jaime Munguia, the champ replied:

“I’ll whoop his ASS! Tell him to come to 160. Make that happen!”

It’s worth noting that all of these fights are possible with any of the names considered, since they are under the same banner.

Andrade is enjoying a career boost. However, “Can he capitalize on it,” is the real question. With rumors of the WBO organization possibly naming Billy Joe Saunders as a mandatory, it’s safe to say the champ is in for a busy 2019!
