WBO Reschedules Demetrius Andrade v Zach Parker Purse Bid Again

Drama seems to follow two-divisional champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (31-0, 19KO). News has surfaced that his fight with WBO super middleweight top contender Zach Parker (22-0, 16KO) has suffered another setback.

THE BACKSTORY

Boo Boo was looking to fight Parker earlier in the 2022. That was until a shoulder injury forced him to postpone the fight. Later the WBO canceled the fight altogether after learning it would take four months before Andrade would be ready to fight. As a result, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, who won the rights to the fight, was refunded his purse bid.

Andrade still had problems that needed ironing out in the middleweight division. The WBO organization ordered him to fight number one contender Janibek Alimkhanuly following the Parker fight cancellation. They ordered a purse bid after both sides could not agree on terms.

This was the third attempt by the WBO in ordering the fight, which never went to purse bid due to Andrade dropping the belt to head to the super middleweight division.

WILL THE PURSE BID FINALLY HAPPEN?

Once again, the WBO gave both Andrade and Parker 10 days to reach a deal, or a purse bid was to be held on September 20. However, the timeline has been moved again due to a natural disaster wiping out the power grid in Puerto Rico, where the WBO’s headquarters is located.

“This Committee ordered purse bid proceedings to be conducted on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the WBO offices in Puerto Rico. However, in light of the extraordinary circumstances present in Puerto Rico due to the passing of Hurricane Fiona, purse bid proceedings were postponed.”

WBO Championship Committee

The WBO is now reporting the purse bid will take place via Zoom call on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Let’s hope this situation will finally get resolved, as this must be a frustrating process for all parties involved.
