Oscar De La Hoya Trashes Canelo v Golovkin Trilogy!
It’s safe to say that the bad blood between Hall of Famer “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya and multi-weight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (58-2-2, 39KOs) will never end. On September 17, Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin concluded their rivalry. Alvarez dominated his archrival en route to a surprisingly close unanimous decision victory in the third bout.
The majority of those in attendance and watching at home were unimpressed with the fight’s action. However, no one was a louder critic than Oscar De La Hoya, the former promoter of Alvarez. He took to social media to blast his former fighter.
UNNECESSARY DISS?
Golden Boy bluntly labeled the third fight between Alvarez and Golovkin as a dud. In his opinion, Canelo couldn’t hold the jockstrap of Bernard Hopkins. Mentioning Hopkins, the legendary middleweight and light heavyweight former champion, probably wasn’t needed, but De La Hoya obviously wanted his comments to sting Alvarez.
It’s clear that De La Hoya still harbors ill will towards Alvarez and vice versa. Back in 2020, Alvarez sued De La Hoya, Golden Boy, and DAZN. Ultimately, all parties involved would go their separate ways. Although Alvarez would return to DAZN in a new working relationship with Eddie Hearn. It’ll be interesting to see how Alvarez responds to the latest dig by his former promoter.
