Joshua Franco v Andrew Moloney ends in controversy after Moloney was robbed!

Seeking revenge after losing his WBA regular super flyweight title on June 23 Andrew “The Monster” Moloney (21-1, 14KOs) would be taking on Joshua “El Professor” Franco (17-1-2, 8KOs). The Australian came out fast pumping the jab, pushing his Texas adversary back while following up with right hands. This continued for two rounds!

CONTROVERSY WOULD ENSUE!

After landing a hard left jab, swelling would immediately start over the right eye of Franco. Ruled an accidental headbutt by Russell Mora, that was something to pay attention to. Just before the start of the third round, the ringside doctor would yet again look at the eye of Franco as he did in round two. After talking with Franco, it was decided that he was in no condition to continue, resulting in the fight being called. The fight was initially set to be ruled a no decision. Conversation would start take place pertaining to the “headbutt” in question. Replay after replay does not indicate a headbutt as the wait for an official decision drags on!

After a nearly 30 minute wait, the decision was announced. It would be ruled a no contest due to four rounds not being completed. How the commission ruled it any other way than a technical knockout win for Moloney is mind boggling. A clearly hurt and frustrated Moloney was brought to tears as he sacrificed months of vigorous training and time away from his family, only to be denied by an error on part of referee Russell Mora and the Nevada state athletic commission.

There is likely to be a third fight at some point in 2021.
