Arthur Biyarslanov Eyes World Title Shots with Smith and Hitchins
Junior welterweight contender Arthur “The Wolf” Biyarslanov earned a tough victory against Jimerr “Motero” Espinosa by seventh-round stoppage. The Wolf wants to fight WBC champion Dalton Smith and IBF champion Richardson Hitchins.
Things picked up in the third round as Motero was dropped twice from hard counter-shots. However, Biyarslanov was also wobbled twice by hard right hands. Once things calmed down, the Russian took control of the fight, pinning Espinosa in the corner and landing hard shots. The referee finally stopped the fight in the seventh after Biyarslanov landed several brutal punches.
Ranked #4 (WBC) and #5 (IBF), he quickly called out Smith and Hitchins for a fight in the in-ring, post-fight interview.
“I want the world titles, now. I want Dalton Smith for WBC. I want Richardson Hitchins – IBF. In both of those ratings, I am top five. I need to get my chance.”
He may have a problem getting a title shot right now. Smith is set to face mandatory challenger and one-time champion Alberto Puello on June 6. The Hitchins fight could be a possibility, but the IBF champion signing with Zuffa Boxing may also be problematic.
Biyarslanov overcame adversity early and proved worthy of a title fight. So it will be interesting to see how things play out.
