Arturo Cardenas Wins Split Decision Over Jesus Arechiga

At the conclusion of a fun, all-action fight, Arturo Cardenas (15-0-1, 8 KO’s) overcame Jesus “Veneno” Arechiga (21-2, 15 KO’s) by way of split decision.

Right from the start of the match, Cardenas and Arechiga went after one another in aggressive but responsible fashion. Yet, at the outset, it was clearly Arechiga who was pressing the action and looking to set the pace. For the better part of it, Arechiga would enjoy his greatest success when campaigning on the outside. Conversely, Cardenas shined the brightest when competing on the inside.

Despite the frequency of flush shots landed by each competitor, both displayed marvelous chins as neither was ever significantly hurt or buzzed. With that being said, Cardenas was the recipient of inadvertent low blows that briefly halted the action. This was unsurprising given how frequently Arechiga targeted the midsection.

The tit-for-tat flow of the duel made scoring something of a nightmare for the judges at ringside. It was also a credit to both fighters that they ended the tenth looking nearly as fresh as they began. Although, in that final period, Cardenas did initiate a number of clinches. Nevertheless. When the scorecards were read, Cardenas prevailed by way of split decision to the tune of 96-94 for Arechiga, and two cards for Cardenas (98-92, 96-94).
