Bantamweight To Be One of the Next Divisions For WBSS

The division’s biggest names are likely to participate

Earlier today 3KingsBoxing.com learned that the World Boxing Super Series will be back soon with a new weight class. We were able to confirm that the (118lb) bantamweight division is one of two division’s next up in the tournament style series.

Some of the names floating around that are likely to participate in the tournament are definitely the upper echelon of the division. Names like Japan’s P4P entrant Naoya “The Monster” Inoue, former WBC champion Luis Nery, WBO champion Zolani Tete, former unified champion & current WBA champion Ryan Burnett, as well as Paul Butler. WBA “regular” champion Jamie McDonnell was also mentioned by WBSS organizers as a possibility although he has a fight coming up with Inoue in May.

The WBSS has enjoyed success in their inaugural season with the Cruiserweight and Super Middleweight tournament and look to keep the momentum going. The finals of both tournaments are set to take place in the coming months.

There is no date set yet for when the bantamweight tournament will start but an announcement is expected to come during the week of the super middleweight finals likely in July. Stay tuned as we are sure they will add another division in the near future.
