Barrera looks to return August 18.
Light Heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (21-2, 14KOs) returns after a 12th round TKO loss to WBA champion Dimitry Bivol. The expected opponent is once beaten Sean Monaghan (29-1, 17KOs) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Plans were in place of putting him on the undercard of Kovalev/Alvarez, but an opponent couldn’t be found for that date.
Barrera’s fight with Bivol was his first attempt at becoming a world champion. He will be looking to jump right back into the mix with an impressive win.
Monaghan is still looking to rebound after a brutal second round knockout loss to Marcus Browne last July. He is coming off of a unanimous decision win against the little known Evert Bravo.
In addition, Main Events will be streaming this fight live on Facebook as part of the joint streaming project with Golden Boy.
