Sullivan Barrera is a free agent and looking to stay in title contention

Light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera, has had a long term relationship with Main Events promotional company. However, things lately were rocky with some of the disputes being made public.

This still didn’t stop the Cuban fighter from getting high profile fights that would be the only losses of his career. One a piece against former two-division unified champion Andre Ward and WBA Champion Dmitry Bivol.

After losing the WBA title bid in early 2018, he would bounce back in November with a victory over Sean Monaghan. This would also be his last contractual fight with Main Events.

Now a free agent, the 36 year-old is looking for a new home and wants to continue to fight top opponents en route to a title.

Being a free agent can be rewarding. It affords control of your own career to make the decisions that best coincide with your goals.

The real question, as always in boxing at this point is “what’s left once you reach a certain age?”

Barrera has made it clear there is plenty left in the tank. He is still considered a top fighter in the division, having maintained a top ranking with all four sanctioning bodies.

He is still a credible name in a very stacked division that has turned into a must watch for 2019.

Despite wanting all the top fighters at 175, the Cuban is specifically eyeing a rematch with Bivol. Although, lately he has been openly critical of Anthony Yarde for turning down a possible fight.

No bout has been scheduled yet for the new year and Barrera is still reviewing offers. Therefore, once signed, there is no doubt this top contender will waste no time getting back in the ring.
