Alycia Baumgardner Intends to Stop Mikaela Mayer with Savage Body Shot!

It’s been four years since WBC super featherweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner’s (12-1, 7 KO’s) suffered her only professional defeat. Since that narrow July 28, 2018 split decision loss to Christina Linardatou, Baumgardner has enjoyed a six-fight win streak. During this run, The Bomb, 28, toppled the highly touted Terri Harper by way of stunning fourth round stoppage.

Of those wins however, Harper was by leaps and bounds the best. In fact, with that win, Baumgardner took possession of the IBO and WBC super featherweight titles. In her next duel, the Fremont, Ohio native will not only seek to make the second defense of her title, but to also unify with cantankerous rival IBF and WBO 130-champion Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5 KO’s).

NO MYSTERY INVOLVED

The two share an open distaste for the other and both look forward to venting this rage with their knuckles and hooks. Typically fighters will not do so, yet in a recent Q&A with Behind the Gloves, Baumgardner flat-out laid out her game plan for the fight in plain English.

“Her body. Listen, because she is a little taller than me, I’m a little shorter, I’m going to that body, I’m snatching her ovaries! I’m killing her to the body, it’s probably going to be a body shot!”

Only time will tell if Baumgardner can actually execute her game plan in the ring. If so, it will only add to her reputation. At the same time, she just may have tipped off her opposition and given them the heads up that they need to start tweaking their own strategy before the first punch is thrown. Either way, this has all the makings to be a fun action-fight between legit enemies competing for extremely high stakes. Fight night can’t come quick enough.
