Baumgardner vs Linardatou Rematch Opportunity Opens Up Thanks To BBBofC

A rematch opportunity has presented itself between undisputed junior lightweight champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (17-1, 5KO) and two-time junior welterweight champion Christina “Medusa” Linardatou (14-2, 6KO).

These two fighters share a history. In 2018, Baumgardner was defeated by the two-time champion and lost the WBC International title in the process. To be fair, she was far from the fighter she is today and only lost by a split decision.

In an interview with Women’s Fight News, Medusa expressed confidence in being able to defeat Baumgardner a second time.

“I remember that fight because it was a tough fight. You know, Alycia is a really tough opponent and a strong fighter. One of the strongest that I have fought. I’ve always said that about [her] power. But I already beat her once, and I believe I can beat her again.”

AN OPPORTUNITY ARISES

Linardatou was scheduled to face former unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer, a fellow Baumgardner victim, on April 15. But the fight was cancelled after the BBBOfC (British Boxing Board Of Control) refused to issue her a license.

Before the news dropped, Medusa and The Bomb exchanged pleasantries on social media.

With both fighters now free, the time to make the fight is now. In 2020, Lindardatou won the vacant WBO title but put her career on hold due to being pregnant and did not return until 2022. Leading up to the Mayer fight, she claimed to have trained extra hard and feels even stronger.

The Bomb has improved tremendously and gained a lot more experience since their last encounter. This is why a rematch between the two fighters is very intriguing and should be under consideration to take place next.
