Oscar Collazo Aims to Establish Dominance Against CP Freshmart

The distinction of being a unified champion is on the line as minimumweight world titleholders Oscar Collazo and Knockout CP Freshmart will battle on November 16. The winner will be regarded as the elite fighter in the division, and Collazo is confident he’s that.

READY FOR THE MOMENT

This upcoming battle will be a part of Riyadh Season and will occur in Saudi Arabia. Collazo (10-0, 7 KOs) took part in a scheduled public workout for the boxing press. Following the festivities, the reigning WBO 105-pound champion opined about the fight and explained why he would win.

“It’s history in the making and a great fight . . . If you want to prove yourself, you got to fight the best, and I’m proving that right now.”

“I gotta be more intelligent than him. I’m faster than him. I pick my shots; be patient with my shots. I know he’s going to make a mistake, and we’re gonna get him.”

CP Freshmart (25-0, 9 KOs) is boxing’s longest-reigning active world title, having held the WBA minimumweight title since June 2016. However, this is only his second fight in two years. In his most recent contest in September 2024, CP Freshmart had to rally to retain his title by a majority decision over mandatory challenger Alex Winwood.

The WBA champion has tons of experience. However, at 34, he’s getting up there in age. Collazo has the quicker hands and is the harder hitter. El Pupilo has the skill and firepower to be the first man to defeat the veteran.

Collazo already has a stoppage win over the current WBC champion, Melvin Jerusalem. Most observers of the lower-weight division make El Pupilo the favorite in a potential fight against IBF champion Pedro Taduran.

Golden Boy is the promoter of Collazo and believes he’s on a path to stardom in the lower-weight divisions. The road is paved for the 27-year-old to show his superiority at 105 with an emphatic performance against CP Freshmart.
