David Benavidez is interested in Jermall Charlo’s challenge!
For those familiar with WBC super-middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (22-0, 19 KO’s), it’s a well-known fact that he’d love to face IBF world super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (20-0, 12 KO’s). Although, there are clearly other fights that Benavidez would like to make for the fans and his own legacy.
Naturally, Red Flag would jump at the opportunity to take on the Mexican superstar and WBA regular super-middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KO’s). However, when asked during an exclusive interview with Fight Hype, he divulged his willingness to mix it up with WBC world middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (30-0, 22 KO’s).
FOR THE FANS
Despite wanting the Plant bout more personally, Benavidez fully realizes how significant a prizefight with Charlo would be. Outside of pleasing the fans, Red Flag understands that he must take on certain challenges if he will ever become one boxing’s great competitors.
“At the end of the day, if I want to retire and I want to be one of the greatest of my era, I have to fight all these guys. So whoever it is, I don’t care who it is, I’ll fight anybody!
“I think that Charlo might be a little bit more dangerous fight [than Plant]. He has a lot of experience. I feel like he has more power. Honestly, I feel like Caleb Plant belongs at 160, he don’t belong at 168.
“I feel like it would be a way more exciting fight with me and Charlo because we’ll both be there looking for the knockout. It’ll be an extremely fan-favorite fight. It doesn’t matter man, everybody wants to fight with me, I’ll take the fight.
TIME WILL TELL
Given the list of fighters that he wants, Plant, Canelo and Charlo, it’s plainly evident that Benavidez is not trying to play it safe! However, unfortunately for the fans, its back to the waiting game as we see who Team Benavidez can pen a fight with first. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for all the latest boxing news and updates.
