Benavidez takes full responsibility for his actions and extends his apologies
In a previous article, 3kingsboxing.com mentioned the option Benavidez had of requesting a secondary test. This would help exclude any possibility of VADA making a mistake on the initial test.
Well there wil be no need to make this request now. The WBC super middleweight champion has issued a statement admitting to his mistake:
“I would like to sincerely apologize to the WBC for my actions. I am embarrassed to have this happen. And to my all my fans that I lost the respect of, I know a lot of people won’t see me the same but I am young and it was a mistake on my behalf.”
The next step will be a hearing setup by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman to determine the fate of the champion. A suspension, consequently, may delay the unscheduled mandatory bout against Anthony Dirrell.
However, the WBC indicated that due to benzoylecgonine being a substance of recreational nature, there may not be a need to enforce a suspension.
3kingsboxing.com will follow this story and keep you informed on the fate of Benavidez.
