David Benavidez tells Caleb Plant he’s ready!
On February 15, Caleb Plant (20-0, 12 KO) successfully defended the IBF Super-Middleweight title for the second time with an easy 10th round TKO win over mandatory Vincent Feigenbutz (31-3, 28 KOs) in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
Following his victory, the 27-year-old known as “Sweet Hands” called for a unification bout against WBC world champion David Benavidez (22-0, 19 KO). Having witnessed the fight and Plant’s challenge, Benavidez went to social media to give his response.
The 23-year-old Phoenix, Arizona native gave this stinging clap back:
“It’s easy to look good against a bum. I wanna see you try to do that against me, Sweetheart. Let’s get this done! Don’t want to keep the fans waiting.
“Caleb Plant ain’t gonna be talking tough anymore when I put his ass in the hospital.”
There has been bad blood between the two. The roots of their beef go back to an incident involving Plant and David’s brother, Jose. Both world champions have traded taunts and threats since and have openly talked about fighting each other.
At this point, the time is ripe for this fight to happen. Both are world champions and seem to be hitting their primes. Each fights for the same promotional brand, PBC.
From a style perspective, it would be a great clash between the sharp slick-ster (Plant) and the aggressive combination puncher with power (Benavidez).
A combination of genuine animosity plus a potentially good fight, it doesn’t get any better than that. It would be nice if the back and forth trash-talk ends up with these warriors squaring off in the ring in a Super-Middleweight unification showdown, something that would satisfy all boxing fans.
