Jose Benavidez Sr. Says Canelo Ghosted David in Negotiations
Two-time WBC super middleweight champion “The Mexican Monster” David Benavidez (28-0, 24KO) could face one-time WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16KO), should undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez reject the fight on May 4.
The boxing public is in a frenzy after learning Alvarez (60-2-2, 39KO) was offered an enormous guarantee to face Benavidez. Also, The Mexican Monster is willing to compete for the WBC interim light heavyweight title against Gvozdyk.
Of course, if Canelo agrees to fight Benavidez next, then the Gvozdyk fight gets shelved. 3Kings Boxing spoke with trainer and father Jose Benavidez Sr., who revealed that his son made a huge sacrifice to make the fight happen with Canelo.
“Everything is ready to go with the Gvozdyk fight, maybe the first week of June. Canelo was offered the biggest guarantee of his life, and David accepted the minimum to make the fight.”
“Canelo has since disappeared.”

The elder Benavidez has been vocal about Canelo’s unwillingness to face his son. Boxing fans can only hope the undisputed champion is waiting to fight the two-time champion in September.
THE HEAT IS ON
Earlier reports revealed that Premier Boxing Champions owner Al Haymon was willing to pay a hefty guarantee to Canelo to face Jaime Munguia. Haymon has turned up the heat on Alvarez with a guarantee of $55 million to fight Benavidez.
Canelo versus Benavidez is one of the biggest fights that boxing fans have been screaming to see. When he signed a three-fight contract with PBC, fans thought a fight with Benavidez would’ve been part of the agreement.
This is one fight Alvarez can’t afford to sidestep without his legacy taking a huge hit with the fans.
