Conor Benn Is Gearing Up To Face Mario Barrios In A Title Fight
Top welterweight contender Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (23-0, 14KO) is stepping away from all social media platforms. His reason behind this decision is to focus on WBC champion Marios “El Azteca” Barrios (29-2-1, 18KO).
Benn is ready to challenge for the world title after a long battle with the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency. The Destroyer is ready to return home in a showdown with Barrios in front of fans in the U.K. Although there was no official announcement, Benn revealed that the fight could be next when talking about IBF champion Jaron Ennis.
GETTING READY FOR A FIGHT
Benn went to social media delivering a message to those inside the boxing community.
Along with the post was a video of him doing an intense workout. In his last outing, Benn easily defeated Peter Dobson by unanimous decision in July 2024. Several fans and pundits view El Azteca as the weakest champion in the division, with Benn undoubtedly being the heavy favorite. It shouldn’t come as a surprise anyone that Benn is predicting a victory.
Barrios proved those sentiments true by getting a draw against journeyman Abel Ramos in November 2024. After getting off to a fast start knocking down Ramos in round two, the WBC champion was put on the canvas as he fizzled out in the second half of the fight.
The Texan will need to do better if he wants to retain the title against Benn. Barrios must use that height and reach to his advantage by fighting behind a constant jab.
Benn wants to make a statement this year and winning a title is a top priority. His decision to stay off social media should be commended for it will eliminate all outside distractions.
