Edgar Berlanga Looking Forward to the Test of Steve Rolls on March 19

When middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (18-0, 16 KO’s) first launched his career, he had two serious pitfalls to avoid. To begin, he possessed debilitating power and enjoyed immense public popularity. In fact, Berlanga opened his career with 16 straight first-round knockouts.

On the surface, power and popularity are technically great attributes, but for a young fighter attempting to make their bones in the sport they can be potent and deadly distractions. The Chosen One would first run into notable resistance when he was first stretched to the scorecards against Demond Nicholson on April 24, 2021. In his next bout, versus Marcelo Coceres, Berlanga was pushed to the cards again and even got his first taste of the canvas. These early tribulations proved to the young fighter that he had much more work to do.

Edgar Berlanga hypes his upcoming fight with Steve Rolls

On March 19, Berlanga will aim to learn a few more valuable lessons versus veteran Steve Rolls (21-1, 12 KO’s). Rolls is now riding a two-fight win streak since losing his only professional match to Gennady Golovkin back on June 8, 2019. Since that fourth-round knockout loss, Rolls has defeated obscure fighters Gilberto dos Santos and Christopher Brooker. Both lost by way of stoppage.

Currently, the Chosen One is ranked #6 (WBO) and #13 (WBA) and looking to advance. A win over the crafty Steve Rolls would definitely help in that process. So, let’s see if Berlanga can keep his record spotless or if Rolls can deliver the latest boxing upset!
