Artur Beterbiev will defend his IBF title on DAZN.
Undefeated Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev is set to face undefeated UK challenger Callum Johnson for the IBF title Oct. 6. It appears this fight will be on DAZN, the streaming network produced by Eddie Hearn. He also agreed to a 3 fight deal with Canadian promoter Yvon Michel
The relationship between IBF light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and his promoter Yvon Michel of GYM hasn’t been great until now. In 2017 Beterbiev asked the courts to terminate his contract with the Michel. His claim involved disputes of not being paid his minimum purses or fights as promised under the contract.
The Canadian courts in June 2018 dealt the IBF champion his first defeat by siding with Michel stating his contract is indeed valid until 2021. Beterbiev has since appealed the courts decision but remains under contract until further notice.
He won the vacate IBF light-heavyweight title in November 2017 with a KO over Enrico Kolling. The opportunity came after the retirement of former two-division champion Andre Ward.
This deal could be good for Beterbiev as at the very least it will keep the 33-year old more active. It will also shine a brighter spotlight on the champion.
Both men are undefeated and both can punch. Beterbiev however has knocked out everyone he has ever faced while Johnson has stopped his last 4 opponents by KO.
One thing is for sure this fight may not go the distance even though a venue hasn’t been named its rumored this fight could take place in Chicago.
