Newly crowned WBC junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez will be making his first title defense against Danny O’Connor.

This will be a homecoming event for Ramirez who will be fighting at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

Ramirez is a huge favorite going into this fight. He is coming off of the most significant victory as a pro against Amir Imam to win the WBC title.

At 5’10” and fighting out of the orthodox stance, he goes to the body very well. He also mixes his shots up, applies effective pressure and has good power. He’s a fighter that gets stronger as the fight goes on and will definitely feed off the energy of the home crowd.

O’Connor is a major underdog going into this fight and lacks a win against a fighter the same caliber of Ramirez.

Not exactly known for his power with only eleven knockouts in 33 bouts, he’s going to have to make this an extremely ugly fight.

There is a possibility of a late stoppage win by the champion, but O’Connor is a game opponent.

The fight will be televised live on ESPN at 9:00 pm ET.
