Bill Haney says his son is Tank Davis’ kryptonite!
The father and trainer of unbeaten WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) believes his son is the “Kryptonite” to Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22KOs).
There is no secret that these two men have gone at it on social media in the past throwing shots at each other. Both men have expressed interest in a possible showdown down the line. With Davis now at 135, that possibility is extremely high. But would this fight be competitive or one sided? The elder Haney spoke to Fighthype.com about his belief that his son is the Kryptonite to the hard-hitting Davis.
“Well everything that Devin possesses is the direct nemesis to what Tank is. Devin is the kryptonite to Tank. Pure boxer, tall, long you know it’s everything Floyd did with every southpaw he faced, made it look easy.”
Obviously, both of these fighters are extremely talented and posses different game-changing abilities. For Haney, he has the height and reach advantage to go along with an excellent jab. Davis, the shorter man, brings excellent speed and explosive power. Haney, an orthodox fighter, would have to deal with the pressure and pure strength of Davis, who is a southpaw.
While this is a tantalizing matchup, both men have business they have to tend to. Davis will take a step up in competition when he takes on multi-weight champion Leo Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19KOs) on October 31. As for Haney, he will be taking on former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs) on November 7.
If both men are victorious as expected, it opens up a path for a possible showdown in 2021!
