Bill Haney Calls Out Team Davis For Not Wanting To Fight Haney

Ever since his December 9 prizefight with Regis Prograis, there has been a concerted effort by some to downplay WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney’s (31-0, 15 KO’s) pay-per-view numbers. It is the belief of The Dream’s father and chief second, Bill Haney, that this is simply a smear campaign to discredit his son. This is why he is unflappable in saying that WBA Regular lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ (29-0,  27 KO’s) team is pushing the poor result angle so hard.

In a recent interview with 78SportTV, Bill Haney provided a bit more insight into his thoughts on the matter.

“If they don’t knock it off and stop the lies man. It was a great fight, we’ve had great fights this year. It’s nothing to diminish. And listen, the biggest fight in boxing is Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney, the face of boxing, versus Tank Davis, the former face of boxing. But being that the former face of boxing is scared and his team is cowards, you dig? So we looked around the landscape to see what was happening . . . I mainly address the lies because it’s so easy because they say everything except, ‘let’s fight!’ They lames!”

KNUCKLE-UP OR PIPE DOWN!

There is no question that Haney versus Davis is a great fight that more than likely would be a huge commercial success. Davis has long since established himself as a star as evidenced by his string of successful pay-per-view events. Haney is coming off what appeared to have been a successful pay-per-view event in his duel against Prograis. Yet, what The Dream lacks in proven pay-per-view numbers, he makes up for with accomplishments. He is a two-division champion and former undisputed lightweight champion, a status that was defended twice.

Sadly, as The Dream and Tank now occupy separate weight divisions, the likelihood of this grudge-match coming together is low as ever. If not a fight though, it should at least be entertaining to hear how Team Davis reacts to this declaration of their timidity. Thankfully though, no matter what comes in the next chapter of this rivalry 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
