Dmitry Bivol Wins Eifert Title Defense; Beterbiev Trilogy Coming?

After a fifteen-month absence from the ring, unified light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol returned in impressive fashion. Bivol earned a dominant unanimous decision victory over mandatory IBF challenger Michael Eifert. All three judges scored the bout 118-107 in favor of the champion. Upcoming for Bivol is likely a third fight with rival Artur Beterbiev.

Fighting in front of a supportive hometown crowd at the UMMC Arena in Ekaterinburg, Russia, Bivol (25-1, 12 KOs) wasted little time asserting his authority. Midway through the opening round, he dropped Eifert (13-2, 5 KOs) with a perfectly timed counter left hand, immediately establishing control of the contest.

From there, it was a showcase of Bivol’s elite-level boxing ability. Utilizing his trademark footwork, timing, and precision punching, the champion dictated every aspect of the fight.

The German challenger showed toughness and determination, but he was consistently outclassed by the superior technician. Bivol’s accurate combinations and defensive awareness allowed him to cruise to one of the most lopsided victories of his championship reign.

READY TO RUN IT BACK?

Now fully recovered from back surgery to repair a herniated disk suffered in August 2025, Bivol appears poised for the next defining chapter of his career, a trilogy bout with fellow Russian star Artur Beterbiev.

Their rivalry has already produced two memorable encounters. Beterbiev edged Bivol in their first meeting in October 2024. Bivol responded emphatically in the February 2025 rematch, delivering a career-best performance to capture the undisputed light heavyweight championship.

With the series tied at one victory apiece, a third fight has become one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups. Their contrasting styles, championship pedigree, and competitive history have produced compelling action each time they have shared the ring.

Where things stand, based on the unresolved nature of their rivalry, all signs point toward a decisive third clash. If made, Bivol-Beterbiev III would provide the perfect opportunity to determine once and for all who stands atop the light heavyweight division.
