Muhkammad Shekhov Dominates Betancourt in Title Eliminator

Uzbekistan’s Mukhammad Shekhov has firmly established himself as a world-class contender and now stands on the doorstep of a world title opportunity.

Competing at the UMMC Arena in Ekaterinburg, Russia, Shekhov (18-0-1, 4 KOs) delivered a masterful boxing performance against Yerny Betancourt (27-3, 21 KOs), earning a unanimous decision victory by scores of 118-110, 119-109, and 118-110 in a WBA junior featherweight title eliminator.

From the opening bell, Shekhov controlled the action with a sharp jab, excellent footwork, and superior ring generalship. He consistently beat Betancourt to the punch and accumulated points throughout the contest. Forced to chase the fight, Betancourt attempted to apply pressure and cut off the ring. However, he struggled to contain his elusive opponent.

As the bout progressed, Shekhov’s speed and technical skill became increasingly apparent. His ability to dictate distance and timing left Betancourt frustrated. By the championship rounds the Cuban contender appeared resigned to defeat as Shekhov continued to box effectively from the outside.

The victory elevates Shekhov to the position of WBA mandatory challenger at 122 pounds. Undisputed champion Naoya Inoue currently rules the division. However, he could very well move up to the featherweight division in 2027.
