Bivol Betting on his Tried and True Skills to Beat Artur Beterbiev
WBA super light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12KO) is ready for the undisputed showdown against unified champion Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20KO). To win, instead of looking to add anything new to his arsenal, he will aim elevate the bankable skills he already possesses.
On October 12, both fighters will enter the ring in the biggest fight of their careers against the best opponent they’ve ever faced. Beterbiev is a monster who has put down everyone that he’s faced. Besides being a decent boxer, he can flip that kill-or-be-killed switch on, and the power takes over.
In his last outing, Beterbiev became the first fighter to stop one-time WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith. Some inside the boxing community feel that Bivol must pull out a new trick to overcome the power of the unified champion.
IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT
During an interview with Fight Hub TV, the WBA champion stated there would be no change to his fighting style.
“Many times people ask me, ‘what are you going to change for this opponent? What are you going to change for that opponent?’ Most of the time, I was working on my good skills. I can not add something new. I can only improve my skills.”
Bivol is correct; a fight of this magnitude is not the time to change or try to add anything new. Furthermore, he is a supreme boxer, who possesses the footwork, defense, and ring IQ that can nullify Beterbiev’s power.
He surprised boxing fans with a show of aggression in his last outing by stopping Malik Zanid on June 1. Bivol will approach this fight more cautiously but still needs to be offensively aggressive enough to win the fight.
