Dmitry Bivol is willing to go to 168 for Canelo Alvarez
WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitry Bivol (17-0, 11KOs) has yet again reiterated his desire to face WBA regular super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KOs).
In an Instagram live post with Promoter Eddie Hearn, the Russian champion said that he has no problem dropping down seven pounds to face the sports cash cow.
Having been idle since his unanimous decision victory over Lenin Castillo (20-3-1, 15KOs) in October of 2019, Bivol is itching to get back into the ring for a big fight!
“I can move down to get the big fight and I don’t have a problem to get to 168 to face Canelo.
Why are we talking about Canelo? Because my team said Canelo has a problem with opponents. I know you [Eddie Hearn] and DAZN doesn’t have a problem making the fight for me vs Canelo.”
Bivol has long been tabbed as the guy who has the potential to reign supreme at light heavyweight. Having beaten current WBA regular light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal as well as top contenders Joe Smith, Isaac Chilemba and Sullivan Barrera, it’s clear that he’s more than ready for his big fight opportunity.
Whether it’s against Canelo or in unification clash at 175 against Artur Beterbiev who holds the IBF and WBC titles.
At the moment Alvarez appears headed to either a clash with WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.
It’ll be interesting to see what fight Bivol lands once boxing returns after the Covid-19 pandemic ends.
