WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitry Bivol knows there is a huge unification bout looming.
Although, he must get past Issac Chilemba on August 4 in Atlantic City.
Bivol’s fight with Chilemba will serve as the co-main event on an HBO telecast headlined by current WBO Sergey Kovalev. Both fighters share the same promoter in Kathy Duva over at Main Events.
Therefore, it is easy to assume the fight will be relatively easy to make when the time comes.
Bivol, 27 (13-0, 11KOs) is highly touted and looked at as the next great light heavyweight. His attitude is business-like with the proper focus on the task at hand.
Speaking on that potential fight and what hopes to be a packed house, Bivol had this to say:
“I’m sure the Kovalev fight is not far away.”
“I’m hoping that there’s going to be a way to make this fight where a lot of the fans come and see it, because it’s going to be a great fight. I’m hoping it’s going to be more than just a couple thousand fans, that it’s going to be a big fight with a lot of fans because it’s a big unification. It’s two of the top light heavyweights in the world and it could be one of the biggest fights in the division.”
“We’re hoping that’s what it will be.”
I think we all would agree with that notion from Bivol. As long as both men keep winning impressively, there’s no doubt in my mind that when the time comes Bivol vs Kovalev will be one of boxing’s hot commodities.
