Blair Cobbs Shifts his Position After Live Exchange with Bill Haney

When welterweight fighter Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KO’s) recently threw shots at Team Haney there was certain to be backlash. In his whirlwind of words, Cobbs insinuated two-division champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KO’s) wasn’t a clean fighter and less than a man. Yet, following a late-breaking exchange with Bill Haney, Devin’s father, manager and chief second, Cobbs had a public change of heart.

During a segment on ThaBoxingVoice, both guests, Haney and Cobbs, went barb for barb in a largely respectful exchange. Once Bill had walked through the elements outlining the rationale his team utilized to decide to sue, The Flair admitted his viewpoint had been swayed.

“Oh, now it’s looking real interesting, maybe he is on steroids! Maybe he got popped for something he supposed to be getting popped for!”

“Well I’m a man and I’ll tell you like this: the idea of a fight between Blair The Flair and Devin Haney – that’d be great. And I got nothing but respect for you guys and you know what? I take it back!”

PROVE WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT!

The best part of the Cobbs/Haney face-to-face diatribe is the potential for an entertaining fight is still a viable possibility. At the moment, both boxers are in need of opposition. Cobbs is coming off a career-best win over Adrien Broner while Haney is fresh off a controversial “no contest” against Ryan Garcia. Also, Team Haney has threatened a welterweight invasion extensively.

If they made that jump, Cobbs would be a very intriguing opponent. While currently unranked in the top ten of any major sanctioning body, he is a very recognizable personality. The Flair is a also a proven hard hitter who has more than enough pop to see if Haney has any remaining chinks in his chin.

For these reasons, Cobbs is a realistic, palatable fight option for Haney. For Cobbs, Haney would become his new biggest professional victory. So, now that the two camps have made relative peace with one another, let’s see if they will do actual business. Bill Haney has certain not denied it as a possibility!

“What I am saying is you’re going to get this work even more. I would have rather not fight you if you didn’t man up and and do just what you are doing. But as a man, I still told you then, before that, we respect what you are doing and if that time comes we are going to give you a fight. We would never deny the Cobbs family or say what you ain’t. You a showman, you willing to fight and I see now even on television on this shit, you are a real man, you manned up. So we are not going to downplay the opportunity to fight, but what I wanted the world to know is ain’t no bitches in the Haneys!”
