Boxing’s Biggest Fight? Canelo/Golovkin 2

The winner of Alvarez/Golovkin is just getting started

May 5, 2018 is the date set for the biggest fight of the year. The highly anticipated rematch between middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.

The first match ended in a draw and brought with it a lot of drama from the majority of fans feeling GGG won the fight. The atrocious scorecard by Adalaide Byrd was the talk of boxing forums for months.

Whether you felt Canelo won or GGG won, neither guy won by a big enough margin to label the decision as a robbery. Not only is the Middleweight championship on the line, the future of the Middleweight division is on the line also in this fight. Both of these fighter’s most definitely will have a tough task ahead of them on May 5, but the winner will have a slew of top level fighters waiting in line for their opportunity.

Daniel Jacobs, Jermall Charlo, WBO titleholder Billy Joe Saunders, and up and coming contender Sergiy Deryvyanchenko are all waiting for their shot. I wouldn’t call it murderers row but it’s not an easy task for any champion to fight all four of those fighters.

Also where will the loser of the fight go after this, it’s a long way back to the top and if it’s GGG you wonder if he will retire or just move up to 168, either way what will become of the Middleweight division is something all boxing fans should be looking forward to and anticipating some answers starting May 5th in Las Vegas.
