Brandon Glanton, Tapia and Valsaint All Gain Stoppage Wins
Cruiserweight Brandon Glanton (18-2, 14KO) is back in the win column after beating the fight out of Carlo Fromenta (12-2, 7KO).
After suffering two back-to-back losses and a ten-month layoff, Glanton fought like a man trying to keep his career off life support. He got outclassed in the opening round before adjusting by applying pressure and attacking Fromenta’s body.
Glanton scored a knockdown in round two by landing a punishing overhand right on the ear that disrupted the Cuban’s equilibrium. Realizing his opponent was ready to go, Glanton turned up the attack and landed several hard right hands. This caused Fromenta to turn his back and walk away as it was clear the fight had been beaten out of him.
This version of Glanton needs to show up in every fight. The fighter from Atlanta picked up a minor WBA title in pursuit of getting back into title contention.
CESAR TAPIA EARNS A STOPPAGE OVER ERIC ROBLES
Super middleweight Cesar Mateo Tapia (15-0, 9KO) turned in a solid performance with a stoppage against Eric Robles (9-3, 8KO).
This fight looked as if it was going to be an early stoppage before turning into a fan-friendly shootout. Tapia landed a picture-perfect right hand behind the jab that sent Robles to the canvas in the first round.
After surviving the round, Robles came alive by fighting back with combination punches, and focusing on Tapia’s body. The next few rounds saw both fighters take turns landing bombs as the Mexican buzzed the undefeated Aussie momentarily.
In round five, Tapia turned it up and started landing the right hand using uppercuts, pull counters, and hooks. He targeted the swollen left eye of Robles to the point it was badly damaged, which forced the doctor to stop the fight before the start of the sixth round.
The Aussie needs a little bit of polish, as he has a tendency to lose focus. Yet, overall he has the potential to make some noise.
DARRELLE VALSAINT SCORES AN IMPRESSIVE STOPPAGE OVER DIEGO FERREIRA
Middleweight prospect Darrelle “Blast” Valsaint (10-0, 8KO) is proving to be a diamond in the making after running over Diego Ferreira (10-2, 6KO) in the first round.
Valsaint is a force that continues to score statement-making knockouts each time he steps in the ring. Without breaking much of a sweat, he showed improved defense, footwork, and ring IQ.
The hard-hitting prospect worked beautifully behind the jab before luring Ferreira in with feint and landed a painful left uppercut. It was game over after that as he poured on the attack, landing hard body shots and hooks upstairs.
After some confusion from the referee, who thought the bell had sounded, he finally waved off the fight as Ferreira took some unnecessary punishment.
If Blast continues to put on these kinds of performances, it’s only a matter of time before one of the bigger entities in the sport comes knocking to sign him.
