Breadman Edwards Talks Caleb Plant v David Benavidez
In early 2023, the boxing world will be treated to a big-time fight when former 168-pound champions Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) and David “Red Flag” Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) clash in a long overdue fight! With so much excitement from the fans and fighters themselves, the head trainer of former IBF 168-pound champion, Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, has given his thoughts on this tantalizing matchup.
Speaking with Brian Custer on The Last Stand Podcast, Edwards said the following:
“I think it’s a great fight, it’s the perfect style matchup. You’ve got the pressure fighter versus the boxer. It’s a great fight. I have a lot of respect for David Benavidez, and I don’t disrespect fighters – it’s a hard sport. I got all the respect in the world for David Benavidez. We’ve got our work cut out for us, but I’m confident in Caleb that he can pull it off.”
There’s no secret that this matchup will pose challenges for both men. As mentioned by Edwards, the style of each fighter has an opportunity to showcase their strengths and weaknesses. The pure dislike both Plant and Benavidez have for each other will surely, at some point in the fight, cause each to want to prove a point.
With the confidence of both sides extremely high, let’s hope that Plant and Benavidez produce a fight that will go down in the history books.
