WBA Rules Martin v Rivera Fight a Title Eliminator!

Frank “The Ghost” Martin (16-0, 12 KOs) and Michel “La Zarza” Rivera (24-0, 14 KOs) are two promising, fast-rising lightweights. As 3Kings Boxing previously reported, they have agreed to a fight. The bout will now have some added incentive.

RAISED STAKES

The WBA has announced that their December 17 contest will be a world title eliminator. They will square off at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Managed by unified welterweight champion Errol Spence, Martin is an explosive southpaw. The 27-year-old from Dallas, Texas is one of those unique, fast-twitch, muscled fighters. He has shown boxing skills and can control matters on the outside. But he can also flip the switch, come forward and tee off on opponents with powerful combos to the head and body.

Rivera is more of a classic boxer. The 24-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic has an outstanding jab. He uses that punch to control the pace and set up his attack. An underrated aspect of his game is his inside fighting ability. “La Zarza” fights with calmness, patience, and serenity that belies his youth.

IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW

When this fight leaked via social media, hardcore fans were immediately thrilled. What you have here are two talented 135-pounders who are full of promise. The fact that they decided to fight each other speaks to their self-belief and willingness to prove themselves. On paper, it shapes up to be quite an intriguing fight that adds more flavor to an already stacked division.
