Brian Norman Jr Open To Haney: “I’m Down For Anything”

Norman Jr. vs Haney is the Fight Both Men Need

Brian Norman Jr in Discussions to Fight Devin Haney This Year

A match that could be in play for later this year is a battle between the reigning WBO welterweight champion Brian “ The Assassin II” Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) and two-division champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (32-0, 15 KOs). Strangely enough, both fighters need each other. As a result, all parties need to put pen to paper and hammer out a deal.

TRADING WORDS

Bill Haney, the father and trainer of Devin, has been telling anyone within shouting distance that they want a fight with Norman Jr. During an exclusive interview with Boxing News, the welterweight champion responded to being called out.

“Bill Haney is a clown. He’s a whole character . . . Y’all know what I carry in these hands, these gloves. We shall see in the future regarding that fight. I’m down for anything.”

RIGHT TIME AND RIGHT FIGHT

Given the current state of their careers, Norman Jr. versus Haney makes a lot of sense. Coming off a sensational fifth-round knockout over Jin Sasaki on June 19 in Japan, The Assassin II wants with a win over a known quantity – a mainstream fighter to add to his burgeoning resume.

Haney is still in the process of restoring his reputation after his awful performances against Ryan Garcia in April 2024 and Jose Ramirez in May 2025. Boxing fans are hopeful that Haney returns to the form we saw during his wins over George Kambosos Jr. Vasyl Lomachenko, and Regis Prograis.

Word on the street is that Norman Jr. and Haney have verbally agreed to fighting each other this fall. Let’s hope that both parties agree to an actual deal and words turn into them trading blows in the ring.
