Briedis claims a victory in his return.
In a fight that was expected to be an easy win for the former WBC cruiserweight champion, Mairis Briedis was victorious. However, he may not have impressed fans in the way he might have wanted to.
Up until this fight, Deslaurier hadn’t fought outside of his native country of France. Also, all fourteen of his fights were against extremely limited opposition.
The story of this fight consisted of Briedis stalking an unwilling opponent for ten rounds. Deslaurier, whilst being out-muscled and outwitted, was resistant to mount an offensive attack. It even looked as if he had a case of bad nerves and was just in the ring to survive.
Nevertheless, this is still a positive for Briedis as this win can be used as a confidence booster. He is looking to be in position to get the winner of the main event; Oleksandr Usyk vs Murat Gassiev.
With this win, Briedis improves to 24-1 with 18 knockouts.
