Adrien Broner dares Keith Thurman to fight him at junior welterweight!
Adrien Broner has laid out a challenge to Keith Thurman. Well…kind of, as he was walking into the arena in Baltimore for the Gervonta Davis vs Ricardo Nunez fight.
When asked by FightHype.com whether Keith Thurman would be his next opponent, He replied:
“Tell him to come see me at 140!”
Obviously these two men won’t be fighting each other in 2019, but one has to figure this fight is starting to seem like a possibility for 2020.
If we’re being honest, while Thurman looked good against Pacquiao it still wasn’t “vintage” Thurman.
Maybe this is why Broner seems to keep sending verbal shots in the direction of the former champion. At this point in his career the four division champion desperately needs a good win to remain a viable option for the top guys at 140 and 147 pounds.
Although, if Broner is serious about campaigning permanently at junior welterweight, I doubt the former unified welterweight champion would follow him there. The fight would have to either be at welterweight or at some catch-weight similar to Broner’s 2015 showdown with Shawn Porter.
I also find it hard to see Thurman dropping down seven pounds. With the Ohio native being in the position he’s in now with four losses, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t have as much say so as he did before.
Therefore, if it’s a big fight he wants, he may have to return to welterweight.
It should be pointed out that Thurman has yet to respond to Broner and his trash talk and there’s no telling if he even will.
